I got in to Carissa's Wierd after they broke up, so news that they reunited in late 2011 for a 7" EP and a few shows in NY and Seattle was hugely heartening. Unfortunately, I'm not the kind of moneyed-up gadabout who can flit across the Atlantic for a gig.

A London show, somewhere intimate and suitably reverent, is the one show I'd be most excited to see. They could play whatever they want, I love it all equally. Who are you itching to see?

The best 'I Was There' moments are when you catch a band on the cusp of greatness. That shared feeling - the universal acknowledgement that, woah, these guys will never play a room this small ever again - is just so awesome.

Prime example; Alt-J at the Africa Center in April. Six months later they win the Mercury Prize!? WTF.

Lately I've seen a few artists from my pledges that have stopped being "pledgable" because they've announced a show already. However, not so long ago I got an e-mail about a Detour-sponsored pledge for When Saints Go Machine when they already have a show happening in London: http://www.songkick.com/concerts/16303529-when-saints-go-machine-at-concrete. it's not like I wouldn't like an extra show since I can't make it on the date they already have but I see lack of consistency on how the system works there.

Also some others have stopped being "pledgable" because they're not touring anymore (Slowdive I mean in this case). I see the point on doing that to avoid pledges for dead people but you're closing the door to reunion/comeback shows, which feels ironic considering the first show with Desaparecidos was a comeback show for starters. And in the case of Slowdive there have actually been rumours about a possible reunion sooner rather than later. On the other hand, bands in similar status like Ride or Carissa's Wierd are still "pledgable" or others who will definitely not come back like Codeine.

I love the idea and I'd really love to prove to one of my favourite bands that they shouldn't continually go to Continental Europe and not the UK.

One little thing though. I totally get why Songkick tracks dead artists, but I guess you ought to want to exclude them from detour (I got recommended Bill Evans (d. 1980) and Jason Molina. After all, no amount of pledges are going to bring them back from the dead.

I hope.

Robert
